football playing shadows – my first experience to visit a match
it happened last week – first time in my life i visited a football tournament. i played street football in my childhood, but never was a fan or spectator, not at home on TV, not at big football stadiums. i felt like a football virgin, if it’s possible to say this way :-). To my luck i had my camera with me (as always), the sun was in low position against me and my friend had an extra 17-40mm Canon f/4 lens (this day i left my house with a 50mm attached and wanted something more wide open). ok, i was ready to see everything else but football playing shadows – it was out of my imagination and out of my wishlist – the bottom line – i have no idea about the game’s score – really sorry about – i’m so careless to the numbers of this kind 🙂
a few words about this lens – it’s terrible. really. first of all this variable focal length. i just forget how to use a lenses with two rings – one for a focus and the second one for the focal length. after a few mistakes i just decided to some specific numbers of mm – like 17 or 24 or 35 and to forget about this. the tonal range – in this extreme light situation all the images turned out very flat and absolutely not contrasted. i tried to play with an exposure compensation but result was even more horrible. and last point – distortion. if you shoot someone with 17mm from the close distance – think twice about to show him/her the result. and it’s f/4 – WTF.
enjoy the game..
ok, last two images are not about the shadows but about the real game – when the sun has disappeared, i got bored and found this place behind the goalkeepers and had another kind of fun to see the life with the eyes of a football gate.
thank you
you should be visiting football games more often, great images, love the shadows!! 😀
Thank you Alexandra may be with the goal to document what’s going around the game as game is not interesting to me much ;-))
I understand your troubles with these lenses Victor. Personally i try to simplify things in these cases. You did a great job playing with silhouettes and trying different perspectives. I had a similar experience during a rugby match ( had my 24mm prime on ) so very limited on options, and the actual game didnt interest me as such – its all about what goes on around it right? we’re not sport journalists 🙂 1,3, 10 and 12 are my favs!
Good said Yuri ! These nbers are nothing for me bur what is going around – the life is much more important. Thank you. As I said this lens was the only option or to stay with 50mm 😉
Fantastic shadow and light work Victor, you’re a master at it!!
Thank you Sam !
I really like the long shadows. Great work as always, Victor.
Thank you Malin
