Mahane Yehuda Jerusalem market – night walk with Ricoh GRii
I took this series of images of Mahane Yehuda market life at evening when i visited Jerusalem for a walk and beer, or for a beer and walk. Actually it wasn’t only beer-walk-beer visit but finally i walked a few long and nice kilometers and enjoyed this full of life city again (as usual).
I wanted to try my new street/life/moments/portraits shooter Ricoh GRii in different light conditions and very not easy situations when people are moving and the light is extremely different from frame to frame and from moment to moment. I loved this point and shoot devil – i still have to get used to a few manual settings i love to have control on them during my life photography and to stay fast as much as possible and but also invisible and not interfere the moments i found interesting or the moments which help me to express the mood of the market and the intensive life of the last.
Recently this place got some unnatural and unnecessary popularity and many photography enthusiasts and students come here every day with all possible big, huge and super huge cameras – to frighten people and create a bad name to a street(life) photography lovers. They got some success in this process to anger people and i saw and heard many time that these sellers as usual very friendly, started screaming and yelling on some extreme impudent “photographer” and i fully support their feeling. Don’t interfere or GO AWAY ! To my luck i was the only one shooting at this evening and i hope that ppl just going to lost their interest to this full of life plece.
And yes – probably i forget to say that i a few weeks ago i got this tempting young brother to my film shooter Ricoh GR1s – i paid almost same price for each of them – even there is a huge gap of more then 20 years in their age. So, Ricoh GRii is my new everyday additional companion. From the first glance both cameras have completely same size and look.
Here we go…
How interesting, different and extensive.
thank you Paula. i feel the same !
Hi Victor, A nice varied selection of images. Great work.
thank you Peter !
Superb set Victor! Congrats on your new toy! The Ricohs, film & digital make a killer combo for street! I got a similar setup so I’m with you in spirit! 😊
yeahh ! good to know ! i really love to have them both with me everywhere ! i waited too long before i bought this GRii and read some rumors that possible the new version with many additiinal features like rotatable display is coming very soon but to way too long again and to pay high price is not the best idea 😉 finally we are photographers not our gear 😉
Absolutely right Victor! As much as I enjoy the gear, I always know it’s the photographer that makes the pictures and you make great pictures!
By the way, I got the first GR 16mp and you’re doing better cause you got the GRII! I think the sensors are the same so if the new one comes out and has 16mp, I wouldn’t bother upgrading it. Just enjoy what we got cause they’re already very capable cameras!
yes you’re right. this16mp is exactly what i need to get from the everywhere pocket camera. and im trying to use an external viewfinder (i bought used camera with this part) even its not too accurate in framing.
