“No theme” theme photography post.
Sure you know these high and heavy tension days when you can’t concentrate on your usual art-oriented focus and just follow the regular routine of the sequence of working days. And this tension is only increased in its strength. And the days are running. And sometimes you wake up in the middle of the middle of the night and can’t fall asleep without any visual anxiety. And you are empty of ideas and creativity. And you only hope that this condition won’t stay forever.
But not everything is such dark and hopeless. A few weeks ago I bought myself a new for me, but literally old electric guitar – the 35 years old Made in Japan Fender Stratocaster. Now I have it additionally to the opposite in color Black Peavey Strat from the year 1995.
So, after this culmination point, I would like to ask you the question which I’m asking myself endlessly. Why do I (we) love these old things? Why not a newmade, shining, not scratched, good (or not) smelling stuff? Why these old cameras, musical instruments, cars, electronics, household utensils, and others? One of the reasons is the quality of this stuff, created a long time ago. Still working 60 years old cameras, still playing 35 (and 60) years old guitars, the sound of which many new instruments would envy. If you’re also this kind of dinosaur, tell me (us) about your affection.
Now some photographs from recent weeks. As the theme of this post was described as “no theme”, so the images are also very random, from different locations, but it sure that something made them stay connected together – the black and white finishing, which is natural for these devoid of the colors scenes.
And the last point of my narrative today. Two days ago I got for myself an Archival Safe-T binder for my developed film sheets. Right now I store all of them together, but not very organizationally. I started sorting them to check the binder and to select part of them to be already stored and found a huge amount of not scanned works. What I saw just freaked me out. If I will start scanning these works in a daily manner, I will not have time to publish these works until the end of my life. And there is only one Vivian Maier (good that’s it) in this world. The image below is only part of the unscanned.
And some more images…
Additionally, don’t forget to visit my Youtube channel with a few slideshows
Obviously, I can only speak about my own reasons; but I tend to find the more modern technology tries to push its way into my life, the more I tend to move toward analog processes.
It’s not that the tech is bad in and of itself; it’s how it’s used against us that I hate. But I never have to worry about the metadata — and which unaccountable bureaucratic organization is violating my privacy to collect it– from my Bronica.
Thank you for taking a look Matt. Agree with you about the Bronica metadata. I just watched this video about the new features added by the new Firmware of Nikon Z9 camera. Additionally read about another similar feature allowing tracking some specific face and remembering it again after reappearing in the frame.
Ugh. Why!?! How does that make better images?
I just don’t get it. Spend that R&D budget on better sensors. Not more MP, but different. Bring 16-bit color to full-frame bodies. Make medium format sensors more viable… All this stuff is good for is entries on a spec sheet.
but seems like their marketing people know how to lure people with this unneeded stuff. some guy at work was so excited watching the review of these features, i just was in shock. 😉
Great images, I also have a huge amount of negatives to sort and quite a few I haven’t yet scanned. I prefer the quality and feel of older gear. My stereo speakers are from 1978, amplifier from 1982, sounds really good after all those years.
Oh good to know. Im thinking of finding to myself such old system
thank you for the kind words
Great images. Oldies are the goodies!! My goodness, You never relax have you?:):) Always doing something, Great spirits.
Hehe yes always in action. Otherwise feeling died. Thank you for the words.
Ah yes… I know that feeling well, it’s difficult to just stop and relax sometimes. 🙂
I couldn’t live with so many unscanned images! I have to scan them as soon as I’ve developed them. It does mean sometimes I have a massive backlog of scanning to do and it makes me sad, but I get through it. Now, how many of those scans go on to be actually developed further in digital post… 😉
I post almost everything from the scanned images. I scan slowly one by one. Now, finally got the technique of scanning working well for me because i never loved the Epsom plastic holders.. I have to scan at least one day every week 😉 Envy you that you’re so arranged with the scanning process
