Old Jaffa port and streets with Ricoh GRii
Recently i started again with my short visits to the old Jaffa (also in Hebrew Yafo, or in Arabic Yaffa) port and streets. This place always was a target in my weekly walks with a camera or without camera (actually when last time i left my living place without the camera), with my friends or without them. In the past few years I have not had any interest to go there such often due to different reasons related to the changes of the look of Yaffa and to my feelings to this place.
Yes everything is changing, life is going forward, but the way how business oriented people swooped down to the Old Yaffa seemed excessive to me. It’s looks like “black and white” is the only principle of authorities when we talk about administration and taking care of some old places here in Israel. They can throw people and buildings into self-survival and everything come to this looks like completely abandoned, or to find some kind of attractive idea to destroy everything and to bring modern life to these ancient streets and it does not always look cooperating with each other.
Fancy hotels, restaurants and lack of parking places. “Authentic” touristic shops with tons of “buy as a gift” garbage. Everyone can find sample of this “Disneyland” feeling place in hes/her country, so, there is nothing new under the sun and a new bicycle will run the same round wheels.
All this taken with the new for me Ricoh GRii that i bought one month ago. I’m slowly going usual to this special camera. I disabled all the effects, ND filter, sounds, display. Sometimes i enable the display bcos the external GV-2 (for 28mm lens) viewfinder is not too accurate in what i see and what i get in results.
I really exciting to see in my real time Google analytics monitor that last 3-4 months my life photography blog got very unusual activity and one of the most interesting things is to watch real time how people are going through my posts, sometimes click on categories and mostly on tags which i always use in my posts and doing this very accurate. One of the most popular and wanted by visitors tag is becoming “RicohGRii”, but this one is still not too accommodated with a posts and, so i have fill it up ASAP !
Great pictures as always Victor!

Love the new photos! There is still your emotional attachment to the area that comes through in your photos that transports me to the places and feelings you must see and try to express the stories of in your photos ! You may feel unfamiliar with your new camera but your skills are still using that instrument beautifully! I have a new camera too! I want to jump for joy when I get the photo I see from my eye from the new camera. The new camera is so exact when I am successful! It is so exciting! I am opening my new blog soon ! I cannot wait until I can repost and highlight you as a featured artist and inspirational light to shine across the world. My new site will be to feature everyone who has a gift of light to share with anyone seeking to find their own gift within . No matter a creative purpose or another success I hope to give others a place to explore areas that might bring light the fire under a new flame to Burn ! Like the Doors song , I want to help others sing, “ LIGHT MY FIRE! “ You helped to light mine ! HA!
thank you Dawn !!
So fascinating again. Love them all but the last is my favourite.
thank you Paula. i took a series of the moments just standing in this place of the central traffic junction in the old Jaffa during a sunset. and every moment looks interesting with these long shadows and moving silhouettes.
Great shots, great camera. It’s worth leaving the ND filter on Auto though so that you can shoot with wider apertures in bright light if you ever want to.
thank you Roj ! i will check this feature more deep 😉
Great series – I especially like no’s 1 & 4.
thank you David !!
Watching the images, observing moments caught by photographers mind shown on picture.. feeding these my own imagination by the view seen. Scrolling back to read the words written. Words not expected to read, the rebel in thoughts.. The yes it is by many of the words given making this post even more closer on a distance.
Beautiful post in image and word Victor..!
