Snapshots from the car – my purposeless photography (part v).

Good evening – Добрый вечер – ערב טוב – Buenas noches – Добрий вечір – Қайырлы кеш !!!

Since i started this series, I noticed that I stopped being afraid of this word “SNPSHOT”. Long time it was something inappropriate, something done without patience, without using knowledge or even a general unwillingness to have it and a denial of its necessity for the process of photography. Something that has not the slightest drop of aesthetics, perception and idea of the desired result.

A snapshot is a photograph that is “shot” spontaneously and quickly, most often without artistic or journalistic intent and usually made with a relatively cheap and compact camera. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) But, then, after some easy research i found also this essay about the snapshot aesthetic, which is going in absolute parallel with my perception and seeing in photography today. And finally this additional interesting writing by Leanne Staples on Substack brings additional light into the dark tunnel of opinions and massive criticism or it makes it even more darker, depend on the art viewer or art critic.

For me personally, all these terms – documentary photography, street photography, snapshot photography, life photography are talking in the same way about documenting humanity during the period of time when the photographer performs this function. It’s how we have an idea What our immediate ancestors looked like, what they did, what their cities and villages looked like. And it’s why i love snapshot aesthetic of the candid and slightly staged moments. Daido Moriyama was ok to call his photography “snapshots”. ” He said – “Take photographs – of anything and everything, whatever catches your eye. Don’t pause to think. That’s the advice I give people.” Snapshot photography is all about capturing the natural movement and expression of whatever you are photographing – the subject – in that particular moment.”

A few weeks ago, additionally to this blog, i started posting my short notes with photographs on Substack. If you posting or reading there as well, you’re welcome to say me hi and to subscribe to my FREE posts and possible very soon also newsletter.

Enjoy my snapshot aesthetic for today. I don’t title my images and don’t describe them with the information about the photographed moment and place. There are snapshots. But you’re welcome to ask me everything if you interesting to know about some specific moment or photographed place.

It was a Holidays time and our offices were closed, so the only thing I had to do was staying at home and walking around my village and taking images.
